aged care placement | the better way

Carnsworth Kew - A Uniting AgeWell aged care home in Kew will be closing down in December 2019.
Letter to Aged Care Referers ....
I am writing to advise you that the Board of Uniting AgeWell recently made the difficult decision to permanently close the Carnsworth aged care residence in Kew by 9 December 2019.
Sadly, the building, which was opened in 1947, has reached the end of its useful life. While staff have been able to deliver an excellent standard of care and service over many years, the building and environment no longer meet community expectations, organisational standards and financial sustainability requirements, despite our best endeavours, and may begin to compromise the quality of care we can provide into the future.
Uniting AgeWell’s highest priority has always been and will continue to be, the health, safety and wellbeing of all residents in its care.
The announcement of the closure was made yesterday, 2 September 2019.
As a key aged care services referrer, I wanted to ensure that you were aware of this announcement and the processes that are in place to assist residents and their families during the closure and relocation process.
Uniting AgeWell is working very closely with the residents and their families to ensure they are supported to relocate to another facility of their choice, and has ensured that priority places are available at its other aged care facilities, including the new, state-of-the-art facility in Preston, opening in mid-November. We will also be making contact with other facilities in the local area as appropriate and advocating on behalf of residents where needed. Your assistance in this regard, would be greatly appreciated.
While residents remain at Carnsworth, they will continue to receive the same quality of care and service they are accustomed to. After the closure in June, Carnsworth staff will be offered redeployment opportunities within Uniting AgeWell’s other facilities and programs.
We are deeply sorry that residents and staff will have to leave the Carnsworth community and for the anxiety and inconvenience this will cause. We recognise that for some people, Carnsworth has been their home, workplace and community for many years, and receiving news of the closure is distressing. We are doing everything we can to assist and support residents, families and staff through this time of change, including additional pastoral support for residents.
Uniting AgeWell will continue to support seniors in the Boroondara region through its ongoing home care, community services and residential services.
If you have any queries or can assist with information on accommodation options, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
