Moving into residential aged care is a major event in any person’s life journey and it can be a stressful time for the carer's and family. There is a lot of information to be absorbed and sometimes this can be overwhelming. Cardinia Community hope that they are able to answer many of the questions that you or your family might have and help you quickly make the transition to settle to your new home at Cardinia Community.
Dollars to Care is the Australian Government's groundbreaking analysis tool designed to bring financial transparency to the aged care sector.
Meals are prepared fresh on-site from a dietician-approved seasonal menu that caters for resident preferences and allergies including texture modified diets and cultural requirements where possible. Whilst residents are encouraged to socialise and experience the meal service in the dining rooms with friends and family, room-service can also be arranged to resident’s individual rooms where preferred or for health-related circumstances.
Throughout the home you will find spacious lounge areas, libraries, craft rooms, games areas and multi-purpose areas such as movie theatre, music/piano area, billiard table and café which have been designed to promote socialisation with friends and family.
All of the rooms are single bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, with some variance in size. Provided in every room is a king single, electric hi-low bed with hand and foot controller and specialised pressure care mattress; nurse call; individually-controlled air conditioning and heating; and wall-mounted smart TV.
The Cardinia Community Leisure and Lifestyle team seek to gain an insight into the residents’ connection to lifestyle choices and ensure that their social history, interests, cultural and religious needs, skills, capacity and safety are reflected in their care plans.
Relatives and their families are encouraged to attend activities as part of the Leisure and Lifestyle Program to support transitions and maintain positive connections in the residents’ lives.
The monthly Leisure and Lifestyle program focuses on group activities which promote connection, integration and socialising between residents, families and staff, whilst balancing risk management strategies.

For a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) of $550,000 the equivalent Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) reduces to $125.67 pd ($45,870 pa).
The Reserve Bank has kept the cash rate on hold for a few months, so we are seeing a very small decrease in the MPIR. This could mean that the MPIR has reached its peak and could be on the slide down.
Also from 1st April 2024, the refurbished Daily Accommodation Contribution (DAC) rate of $68.14 means an equivalent Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC) of $298,215. In June 2022 the RAC was $544,719, meaning that aged care homes that are “RAD-focused” are now less likely to look at fully supported / partially supported residents if the aged care home has already exceeded their 40% supported ratio, as the RAC has now dropped below $300,000.
The change in the MPIR to 8.34% is welcomed but should have no major impact on residents as they enter an aged care home from
