Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR)

Complete History of MPIR from 2006 to current

The Maximum Permissible Interest Rate (MPIR) was trending lower for many years.

However, the recent uplift in Interest Rates by the Reserve Bank in Australia have seen the MPIR increasing dramatically - this increase can have a major impact on residents as they are entering an aged care home. If you would like to talk to an experienced residential care consultant please contact us.

Given such a high growth in the MPIR, this also means that concessional (supported) clients are becoming less attractive financially. The increase in the MPIR means the equivalent Refundable Accommodation Contribution (RAC) will decrease to below $300,000 meaning that RAD paying clients are seen to be more "commercially attractive" and some facilities may even re-think targeting the concessional ratio of 40% and instead ensuring they meet their much lower minimum concessional ratio requirement.
